Chinese Zodiac: Sign of the Snake

If you were born in the year 1917, 1929, 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989 or 2001 then you were born in the Chinese Year of the Snake and you are governed by that sign’s qualities and attractions. People born in the Year of the Snake tend to be physically beautiful, quiet, wise, and possess an exterior calm and an aura of mystery. Snakes are highly intelligent and alert. They do not talk much, but they are determined and they notice everything. They can be unpredictable and somewhat ruthless. They tend to be successful and achieve their goals using their keen intelligence and intuition, and their substantial personal charm.

Although snakes are calm on the surface, this outward serenity masks intense inner passion. They hate to lose and can be suddenly vicious. In love they are seductive and desirable but also fickle. Snakes tend to have multiple partners and find can monogamy challenging. Snake people are drawn to occult topics and may have psychic abilities or paranormal powers. They are artistic and love fine things and beautiful surroundings. On the negative side, snakes can be vain, selfish, and a bit stingy.

Snakes are most compatible with the Ox or the Rooster. Some famous snakes include Bob Dylan, Greta Garbo, Brad Pitt, Paul Simon, and Oprah Winfrey.

Understanding Astrology Signs

What’s your sign? I’m not talking about some corny pick-up line from the 1970s, or a Blue Color Comedy tour award ‘here’s-your-sign’, I’m talking about your astrological sign. What is the symbolic meaning associated with the specific pattern of the stars and the planets at the moment of your personal birth? Do you know?

Chances are good that, even if you claim not to believe in astrology, you do know what your sign is, and what’s more, you probably also know what characteristics are associated with your sign, and whether or not they seem to match who you think you really are.

What you might not know is that astrology comes in many other forms and is an incredibly rich and varied tradition. Knowing your astrological sign in the Western Zodiac (Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, or Pisces) is just the beginning of an exploration that can be as complex as you want to make it. There are Moon Signs, natal (birth) charts, relationships of stars and planets to one another, and the impact of planetary events and movements through the heavens.

Other traditions of astrology have different signs and meanings. Chinese astrology is very different from Western Astrology. Vedic (or Indian) astrology is not like either one. Dip your toe into the waters of astrology, and you will be swimming in deep tidal waters before you know it.
